Things you should know about power washing.

house washing

Have you noticed that there is green mold growing on the siding, roof, fences and other surfaces on so many homes and businesses in your neighborhood? Take a walk around your property and there is a very good chance that you'll see this invasive growth in several different areas. The best way to find a professional to help clean the green is by searching house washing near me, power washing near me or property cleaning near me.

Over the past few years, the discoloration that we see has been increasing significantly. Northern New Jersey weather patterns have changed and with those changes, we are seeing more and more growth on property surfaces. The only way to remove it, is to kill it. The old school method of using a high pressure washer to 'blast off" the mold and mildew, will only clear it away temporarily. High pressure may also damage the materials used to manufacture your siding, roof and some other property surfaces. While high pressure washing is still necessary on certain surfaces, it should be reserved for specific applications. A professional power washing company will have the skills and resources to safely clean all of your surfaces.

Go for soft washing!

Soft washing is a much safer, eco-friendly process which kills the growth at its root. When washing vinyl siding, cleaning agents are mixed with water and applied using a soft flow onto the surface. After a short dwell time, this mixture is rinsed using low water pressure. As it is rinsed from the surface, it removes the green from the siding.

For roof washing, the same cleaning agents are applied but left on the surface for a longer period of time. Roof surfaces are typically more porous and require a longer dwell time to kill the organic material at its root. Full results of roof washing can take several days to see.

Flat surfaces such as concrete, pavers, decks and driveways require a bit of pressure to remove the dirt and discoloration. Cleaning agents are applied to kill the organics and removal is achieved using a stronger flow of water through a surface cleaner or an appropriate pressure washer tip.

Other processes including tennis court cleaning, awning cleaning, gutter cleaning and window cleaning require different methods to safely and effectively remove the growth and discoloration.

The green stains on siding and the black streaks on roofs are organic and will continue to thrive unless removed from deep within the surface that it is living on. Unfortunately, these organic substances are persistent and will continue to find a place to grow.

Maintaining and repairing your property as needed is much less expensive than replacing big ticket items once they fail. Setting up a maintenance schedule to include surface washing can save significant time and money down the road. Property washing schedules can be as needed based on environmental factors or set to specific timelines.
